World Beating Turf Rolls From County Turf

The time frame for re-surfacing sports pitches has become increasingly shorter as venues seek to increase revenue by hosting a greater number of events.

When a pitch is re-laid, time can be saved, and a better standard of finish achieved, with turf laid in larger rolls. Because half the number of rolls is used, there are also 50% less joints, a big advantage for ‘instant play’ pitches.

Scunthorpe-based turf producer, County Turf, the company responsible for laying the new surface at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford and numerous pitches at major sports grounds in the UK, Ireland and in Europe, now supplies the largest turf rolls in the world, thanks to the innovation of its own staff.

The company has constructed a 2.5m wide turf harvester, enabling it to offer a wider selection of big roll turf to its customers, adding 2.5m width turf rolls to its existing 0.74m and 1.25m width offering.

County Turf has continually invested in the latest technology to ensure it supplies premium quality turf.

Three years ago, the company’s experienced staff built an in-house turf washer, and successfully supplied and laid washed turf at Durham Cricket Ground and at the Rose Bowl.

With testing of the new machine completed this summer, it was first used to harvest turf for the Millennium Stadium pitch in Cardiff in July.

The 2.5m rolls are now available for customers with large scale projects, principally sports grounds and stadia.
