County Turf supplies washed turf to The Rose Bowl

The Rose Bowl, home to the Hampshire County Cricket Club on the outskirts of Southampton is a state-of-the-art cricket ground designed by the award winning architect Sir Michael Hopkins, was recently the recipient of County Turf’s largest order to date of washed turf.

The cricket ground is currently undergoing a £45m development scheme and construction work to erect two new stands to increase its capacity from 20,000 to 25,000 is underway. Other improvements are also planned – a hotel and hospitality boxes overlooking the ground, new toilets, a new entrance and a bigger golf course on site to name a few.

When a full reconstruction of the outfield was required, Steven Pask Limited from Grantham was awarded the contract. Steven Pask, together with Head Groundsman Nigel Gray and Turftrax Consultants came up to Scunthorpe to visit the turf nurseries at County Turf and went on to specify our Washed turf for this prestigious project. 

18,400m² of turf was precision harvested, carefully washed and sent down to Hampshire in 1.25m wide x 29m long rolls.

Over the last five years County Turf has invested large amounts of capital, labour and expertise into the development of an effective process for washing turf.

The main advantage of using washed turf for a cricket ground is that it offers increased percolation and fast downward movement of water away from the surface, avoiding possible contamination of specialist rootzones below.
