2009 – A busy year at County Turf

Despite a downturn in the construction industry affecting turf sales to builders and landscapers, County Turf has had a very successful year with its ‘Sports Greenscape’ and ‘County Stadia’ turf proving particularly popular.

With plenty of national stadia to returf including Croke Park (Ireland), Hampden Park (Scotland), Millennium Stadium (Wales), Parken Stadium (Denmark) and other major venues, they estimate that approx 20 billion blades of grass left Scunthorpe in articulated lorries destined for some of the greatest and most iconic multi-use stadia in Europe.

County Turf staff and local residents are understandably very proud that locally grown turf has graced the pitches of such hallowed venues with some of the world’s finest sportsmen and women playing upon it.

County Turf’s Managing Director, Andy Fraser said: “We have had a fantastic year – it’s been hard work but my staff have all put in 110% and worked as a team to make this happen. It’s been an exciting and challenging time meeting the exacting requirements of such prestigious clients – we have relished these opportunities and risen well to the challenge, largely due to our investment in machinery, personnel and technical know-how. Nowadays it isn’t just the aesthetics of a pitch that matters to these stadia, playability is just as important – factors like ball-bounce, traction, turf shear strength and infiltration rates all have to be assessed. Seeing our products perform to a high standard in these stadia has been extremely rewarding.”
